The Role

The Fabrication Technician is responsible for supporting general manufacturing needs, building test rigs, and modifying aircraft, among other projects. This role requires a combination of mechanical skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must be willing to work swing/night shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate vehicle parts, tooling, test fixtures, and test stands to support launch vehicle testing.

  • Perform welding (horizontal, vertical, overhead) on stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum.

  • Conduct fluid system fabrication, lifting and rigging, and structural assembly.

  • Work closely with engineering on prototype builds and provide Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) feedback.

  • Interpret technical drawings and follow detailed work instructions with minimal oversight.

  • Ensure welds meet visual inspection standards and pass NDT methods such as X-ray and Dye Penetrant inspection.

  • Apply lean manufacturing principles and participate in process improvements.

  • Operate manual mills and lathes; assist with other fabrication-related tasks as needed.

  • Support and maintain a clean and efficient shop environment.

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of welding experience with stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum.

  • 5+ years of experience in R&D and prototyping environments.

  • Skilled in purged welding and understanding heat effects on welded assemblies.

  • Proficient with manual machining tools (mill/lathe) and standard hand tools.

  • Able to complete welds to a quality level acceptable for NDT inspection.

  • Comfortable working from technical drawings and fabrication documentation.

  • Self-starter, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

    • Excellent attention to detail and self-motivation.

    • Strong team player with effective communication skills.

  • Work Hours: Willingness to work long hours during the Dayshift.

  • Safety and Maintenance:

    • Adhere to safety procedures and regulations to maintain safe operations.

    • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and assigned work area.

  • Computer Skills: Proficient in basic computer and technical skills for documentation and machine operation.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop floor at all times.

  • Provide feedback to the team and Leader to support continuous improvement and process development.

  • Complete preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Document actions, production, and quality logs to maintain continuity across shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with one or more of the following:

    • Flow Waterjet operation

    • Stick welding and dual-shield welding

    • Orbital tube welding

    • 3D CAD software

    • Press brake operation and programming

    • Fixture and part design

    • Woodworking

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offers may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and training, critical skills, and business considerations.
