Backed by $80M in funding from investors such as Bedrock, Sequoia, BoxGroup, DCVC, and others, Mach Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to create better defense systems for the US and its allies. With a vertically integrated supply chain, we offer capabilities impossible with conventional methods.

Role Summary:

We're seeking a Vehicle Simulation Engineer to take a lead role in the development of next-generation defense technologies, including but not limited to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), missiles, and advanced weapon systems. This role calls for a highly skilled individual capable of creating and implementing highly multidisciplinary simulation models that will significantly impact the design, performance, and reliability of our products in complex operational environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Modeling and Simulation:
Develop mathematical models and software simulations to test and validate aerodynamics, propulsion, and vehicle guidance, navigation, and control capabilities under realistic conditions, and rapidly evaluate high level performance and configuration engineering trades.

  2. Flight Testing:
Collaborate with hardware and software engineers, and participate in flight tests for data collection and system validation to create a rapid vehicle prototyping and design iteration optimization loop.

  3. Data Analysis:
Analyze flight test and simulation data to assess system level performance and to recommend adjustments to vehicle design, OML, engine performance, GNC algorithms, and vehicle flight envelopes.

  4. Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, aerodynamics, propulsion, and software engineers to ensure the overall product architecture meets performance requirements.

  5. Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive records of vehicle performance trades, CONOPs, designs, algorithms, and test results for internal review and regulatory compliance.

  6. Quality Assurance:
Ensure that all vehicle performance related modeling and simulation activities meet industry and defense standards for safety and reliability.

  7. Troubleshooting:
Provide expertise in diagnosing and solving issues that arise during the development, testing, or operational phases.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in flight vehicle design and development.

  • Proficiency in simulation or software development tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, C++, or Rust.

  • Experience developing continuous integration and continuous deployment frameworks and automation.

  • First principles physics based model development experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in a related field.

  • Experience working with numerical techniques such as ODEs and optimization routines.

  • Experience with aerodynamics and flight vehicle stability and control.

  • Experience with jet turbine engine modeling and performance characterization.

  • Familiarity with defense industry standards and regulations.

  • Security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is an innovative yet disciplined engineer with a deep understanding of aerospace vehicle development principles and optimization, performance modeling, simulation, and analysis, and the desire to rapidly iterate through the vehicle design process. Experience in the defense industry and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams are highly valued. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a substantial impact in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
