Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning and Coordination: Oversee the planning, coordination, logistics, and execution of all flight-testing operations. This includes managing multiple aircraft undergoing tests multiple times each week, primarily in the Mojave Desert.

  • Operational Excellence: Develop and implement comprehensive checklists, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure flawless execution of flight tests. Ensure all operations comply with regulatory standards and company policies.

  • Team Management: Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians operating and strict testing timelines.

  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze flight test data to identify opportunities for improvement in drone performance and testing processes. Implement changes to enhance efficiency, safety, and effectiveness of flight operations.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience and Expertise: Proven track record in managing flight operations, preferably with small uncrewed aircraft with military applications. Deep understanding of the nuances of flight testing, including securing test sites, scheduling transportation and executing test flights. Extensive experience in UAS testing, overseas operations, and operator training is preferred.

  • Certifications: Holds a Commercial Pilot’s License and a Part 107 license; an instrument rating is preferred. Ability to hold an FAA Class I or II physical.

  • Leadership Skills: Exceptional leadership abilities, capable of managing a team of engineers and technicians in high-stress, dynamic environments. Demonstrated ability to adapt to last-minute changes and challenges.

  • Military Background: Previous military experience in flight testing or piloting is a significant plus, providing valuable insights and a strong foundation in disciplined, rigorous operational execution.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and make critical decisions in high-consequence situations.

  • Travel: Flexibility to travel oversees for up to 2 to 3 weeks at a time for customer demonstrations or training is required; current US passport is desired.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offers may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and training, critical skills, and business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in most offers and are considered part of Mach’s total compensation package.
