Aerodynamicist
Mach Industries
Backed by $80M in funding from investors such as Bedrock, Sequoia, BoxGroup, DCVC, and others, Mach Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to create better defense systems for the US and its allies. With a vertically integrated supply chain, we offer capabilities impossible with conventional methods.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Aerodynamic Analysis:
Conduct in-depth analyses of air flow around objects to gain insights into aerodynamic behaviors.
-
Vehicle Level Design:
First principles, largely hand calc analysis to ground vehicle design and begin the iterative process on new programs ranging from air-breathing aircraft, high and low speed glide vehicles, and missiles.
-
Design and Optimization:
Employ a balanced approach involving hand calculations, simulation, and physical testing to optimize the shapes of vehicles and structures, aiming to minimize drag and improve overall efficiency.
-
Vehicle Performance Enhancement:
Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance vehicle performance characteristics, including speed, fuel efficiency, stability, and maneuverability.
-
Test Campaigns
Guide real-world flight testing to benchmark and recalibrate analysis in an iterative cycle towards shipping product.
-
Collaboration with Other Engineers:
Work closely with engineers from various disciplines, ensuring an integrated approach to design that incorporates aerodynamic considerations. Use mass properties, subsystem performance and sizing, structural properties to close analysis loops and ship product.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience as an aerodynamicist
Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience in aerodynamic analysis and design, preferably in an industry setting.
Proficiency in computational tools and simulation software.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and collaboration skills for working in interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
