Data Migration Engineer
Komodo Health
We Breathe Life Into Data
At Komodo Health, our mission is to reduce the global burden of disease. And we believe that smarter use of data is essential to this mission. That’s why we built the Healthcare Map — the industry’s largest, most complete, precise view of the U.S. healthcare system — by combining de-identified, real-world patient data with innovative algorithms and decades of clinical experience. The Healthcare Map serves as our foundation for a powerful suite of software applications, helping us answer healthcare’s most complex questions for our partners. Across the healthcare ecosystem, we’re helping our clients unlock critical insights to track detailed patient behaviors and treatment patterns, identify gaps in care, address unmet patient needs, and reduce the global burden of disease.
As we pursue these goals, it remains essential to us that we stay grounded in our values: be awesome, seek growth, deliver “wow,” and enjoy the ride. At Komodo, you will be joining a team of ambitious, supportive Dragons with diverse backgrounds but a shared passion to deliver on our mission to reduce the burden of disease — and enjoy the journey along the way.
The Opportunity at Komodo Health
Team
The Data Migration team is responsible for migrating client data from legacy systems and third-party platforms into Salesforce-based products for pharmaceutical and life sciences clients. The team manages end-to-end migration lifecycles—from source data analysis and field mapping through transformation development, QA framework creation, validation, and production deployment—across multiple concurrent client engagements. Each project operates on dedicated cloud infrastructure with SQL-based ETL pipelines and integration tooling.
Mission
This role is responsible for executing the technical build and validation of data migration pipelines under the direction of a Data Migration Architect. The DME translates field mappings and transformation specifications into reliable, repeatable SQL-based processes, develops and maintains the QA framework, loads data into target Salesforce environments, and validates output against business requirements. This person will work primarily with the Data Migration Architect, who gathers requirements and defines mappings; the DME's focus is on accurate, independent execution of the technical build. Exposure to client calls and cross-functional teams is available but is not a core expectation of the role.
Looking back on your first 12 months at Komodo Health, you will have…
End-to-End Migration Delivery: Successfully deliver end-to-end data migrations for pharmaceutical clients, managing the journey from initial ingestion through to production deployment with high data integrity.
Hierarchical Scope Implementation: Accurately implement complex hierarchical inclusion logic, ensuring that when a specific record is in-scope, all required upstream and downstream related records are properly filtered and included.
Advanced Transformation Engineering: Develop sophisticated, non-linear SQL transformations, including record synthesis (creating single target records from multiple source objects) and multi-field derivation logic aligned to documented business rules.
QA Framework Development & Execution: Build, enhance, and execute a robust SQL-based validation framework, including unit tests and “Expected vs. Actual” comparison scripts, verifying that every field transformation, data type, referential integrity, and edge case is properly validated.
You will accomplish these outcomes through the following responsibilities…
- (35%) Transformation Pipeline Engineering: Build and maintain SQL-based transformation pipelines that ingest raw source files, apply complex business logic, execute hierarchical and recursive filtering, and stage records for loading into target Salesforce environments using ETL/integration tooling. Includes non-linear mapping and record synthesis across multiple source objects.
- (30%) QA Engineering & Validation Automation: Develop, maintain, and improve the SQL-based QA framework. Write unit tests and automated validation scripts to verify data types, referential integrity, null handling, deduplication logic, and edge cases. Continuously enhance the framework to reduce manual validation and ensure alignment with defined mappings.
- (15%) Data Profiling & Technical Impact Analysis: Conduct deep profiling of source data extracts to identify quality gaps, structural inconsistencies, and the downstream impact of scope rules and business logic on multi-level relationships.
- (10%) Migration Integrity & Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve transformation defects and load errors, including missing foreign keys, duplicate records, undocumented source-system behaviors, and midstream logic gaps.
- (10%) Collaboration, Documentation & Platform Learning: Partner closely with the Data Migration Architect in technical design reviews. Maintain clear documentation of transformation logic, known data patterns, environment configurations, and testing outcomes. Develop deep familiarity with Mavens product suite and Salesforce Life Science Cloud objects, fields, and relationships to ensure accurate execution of transformations.
What you bring to Komodo Health:
- 2+ Years of Hands-On Data Migration or ETL Experience: Experience designing and executing SQL-based solutions for data extraction, transformation, validation, and loading across systems.
- Strong SQL Proficiency: Comfortable writing complex queries (multi-join, CTEs, aggregations), stored procedures, and field-level data validation scripts in SQL Server or a comparable relational database.
- ETL / Pipeline Orchestration Experience: Experience working with at least one ETL or integration platform (e.g., SSIS, Talend, Informatica, Azure Data Factory, or similar) to orchestrate workflows and manage repeatable data pipelines.
- QA & Data Validation Mindset: Demonstrated experience building or executing structured validation logic (e.g., unit tests, reconciliation scripts, “Expected vs. Actual” comparisons) to verify transformation correctness and data integrity.
- AI-Assisted Development Fluency: Ability to effectively use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to accelerate SQL and scripting work while maintaining ownership, accuracy, and understanding of generated code.
- Code Clarity & Execution Documentation: Writes well-structured, well-commented SQL and maintains clear validation outputs and execution notes to ensure transformation logic is transparent, testable, and repeatable.
- Problem-Solving in Ambiguous Data Environments: Ability to navigate complex data challenges such as missing foreign keys, mixed-tenant records, inconsistent formats, or undocumented source system behaviors without constant direction.
Additional skills and experience we’d prioritize (nice to have)…
- Salesforce Platform Experience: Understanding of Salesforce objects, relationships, API limits, bulk data loading tools, and trigger/automation behavior during migrations.
- Regulated Industry Experience: Experience working with data in pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or healthcare environments, including sensitivity to compliance, data standards, and auditability requirements.
- Cloud Infrastructure Familiarity: Exposure to AWS environments (e.g., EC2) or Windows Server environments used to host dedicated migration infrastructure.
- Scripting & Automation: Experience with PowerShell or similar scripting languages for API communication, bulk operations, or migration automation.
